Walz shows transparency
Email Print
April 15 is a day some people dread. One positive way to look at it is our tax dollars are used to build roads, keep our water and air clean and help those in need.

During re-election season Congressman Tim Walz will be criticized for his “earmark” requests for special funding money using those tax dollars. What we need to remember is that before Rep. Walz was elected, there was no transparency in those requests. Thanks to Rep. Walz all those requests must be on the internet for people to view.

Rep. Walz also held a virtual town hall this year, placing all requests on his Web site and allowing citizens to comment online. In the future I hope this practice will be followed by all elected officials.

Thank you to Congressman Tim Walz for requesting tax dollars to complete our section of Highway 14 (to benefit everyone driving across Minnesota) and for other needed projects across the First District.

Thank you for your service to southern Minnesota.

Let me guess. You called Tim's office and angrily demanded answers that mesh with your own beliefs. Why are you surprised that they differ? Your initial post was that you called and didn't get answers. I suspect it was really that the ones they gave weren't the ones that you want to hear.

I called and got answers. I did not reveal any political leaning. I said I was a constituent, and I politely asked about abortion, and a few other things. The person I talked to answered me, and not with, "I haven't spoken with the Congressman about that."

Maybe you're abrasive, and no one wants to talk to you.

I'm assuming by your post that you're upset that Bush led the way with the biggest deficit, a huge expansion in the size of government, and various other things that don't reflect conservative values, but he's 'your guy', so you have to redirect your angry cognitive dissonance somewhere else.

It's always dark when you hide your head in the sand.

Let me guess. You called Tim Walz's office and said I am a card carrying liberal! Where does Mr. Walz stand on every issue? As you can guess I probably agree with him no matter how liberal he is. Give me a break! I am sure they pointed out he also supports taxpayer funded abortions. Yep, check his voting record from last November.

The thing that really irks me about liberals is they won't really answer the questions. Let me just go ahead and give you the answer you are going to give me and then you don't even have to waste your time typing.
I am going to ask you about the out of control, never seen before spending and why it is okay to saddle our kids with tremendous debt. You are going to say it's George Bush's fault. Do you have any answer other than that? I am dying to hear from real people on how they can support the amount of spending that is going on. Only reply if you personally haven't overspent and ended up filing for bankruptcy.

Funny, I called two different offices, and got answers to all my questions, including Walz's stance on abortion.

I think transparency is not in your dictionary. You might want to check. No kidding.

You must be joking! Just for fun, call Tim Walz's office and ask him where he stands on any issue. The standard reply is "I haven't spoken to the Congressman about that issue yet." No kidding. And it doesn't seem like they ever will. His office won't even tell you where he stands on abortion. Ask any half intelligent 18 year old, and they can at least take a position one way or the other.
Ask his staff how he feels about "VAT" tax and they have no idea what you are talking about.
Transparency is not in his dictionary.
The only thing he must be transparent about is his record on pork. Yeah, thanks Tim. Our kids appreciate that you go to Washington to get their piggy bank money. If Hwy 14 requires my kids to have less of an opportunity than I had, then no thank you. I will find a different way to Mankato.
