Erma G. Schnoor, age 89, of Janesville, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, November 23, 2009 at the Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, November 30th at 3:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville with Rev. Dr. Larry Griffin, officiating. Interment will be in the St. John’s-Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

The Schnoor Family will greet family and friends on Monday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home of Janesville is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.

Erma Gertrude was born on June 10, 1920 in Iosco Township, Waseca County, to Samuel and Alma (Plathe) Manthey. Erma was baptized on June 27, 1920 by Rev. August G. Mueller at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Iosco Township, and confirmed on March 25, 1934 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville by Rev. Martin Winter. Erma married Harry G. Schnoor June 26, 1941 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Iosco Township. Erma lived most of her life in McPherson Township helping her husband farm. She also worked at St. Clair Public School as a cook. Erma and Harry did some square dancing, and enjoyed playing cards. They enjoyed traveling over the years, especially their trip to the first World’s Fair in 1962. Erma retired in 1983 and moved with her husband to their retirement home in Janesville. She was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. After the passing of her husband, she lived in her home until July 23, 2003 when she moved to the Janesville Nursing Home for health reasons. After suffering a stroke in late October of 2009, Erma moved to Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato to be near her daughter.

Erma is survived by her daughter Betty Shilts of Mankato; by three granddaughters, Vonda Nowak (Jon) of Pemberton, Beth Kleist (Rudy) of Eagle Lake, and Kandi Weisgerber (special friend Darrel) of St. Peter; great grandchildren, Mitch and Ben Kleist, Montana and Morgan Weisgerber, and Hunter and Emma Nowak; by her sister Lucille Ewert of Janesville; by nieces and nephews and other relatives; by her close friend JoAnn Frank.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harry E. Schnoor on August 27, 2001; by her parents, Samuel and Alma (Plathe) Manthey; by her sister Margaret (Hank) Mueller.

Honorary bearers are Erma’s great grandchildren, Mitch Kleist, Ben Kleist, Montana Weisgerber, Morgan Weisgerber, Hunter Nowak, and Emma Nowak.
